Since 2004, Julie Eng has been working with Magicana - an arts organization dedicated to the study, exploration and advancement of magic as a performing art. Starting her tenure as the Director of Programming and Administration, Julie was also one of the founding magicians who developed My Magic Hands a community outreach program for at-risk youth. She was also instrumental working with Magicana to launch Senior Sorcery, an interactive magic program designed to engage and empower isolated seniors in their homes and community centres. In 2008, Julie was appointed Magicana's Executive Director and currently maintains this position.
Magicana's many magic-related programming keeps Julie well-connected with magic. Its programs include curating and hosting online exhibitions about great magicians from yesteryear; to publishing books on magic and great magicians; to staging shows for the public such as the Masters of Magic Series for the Luminato (arts and creativity) Festival to Tricks to her most recent project, Piff Paff Poof.
One of the most important projects to Julie that Magicana administrates is the tribute fund in her father's name, Magicana's Tony Eng Youth Fund. The youth fund is designed to educate and support youth in magic and Julie, and her family, were thrilled to have so many contributions both made and gifted to young people in memory of her beloved father, Tony Eng since the funds founding in 2008.
It is also clear that Julie's heart still belongs to the stage: she is an active performer and finds time to present along side her magic students at "The Big Show" of My Magic Hands or to perform Mysteries of the Orient for seniors in the Greater Toronto area.
